10.1 change collection
Table of Contents
This post collects changes. It does not necessarily analyze them in depths. It’ll be regularly updated and should contain all changes to be expected to Elemental Shamans in the upcoming patch 10.1. In case something is missing, please let us know.
Tier 30
- (2) Set Bonus: Gain a single Stormkeeper charge every 50 seconds (100 seconds in PvP).
- (4) Set Bonus: For 8 seconds after you consume Stormkeeper, your Lightning Bolt, Lava Burst, Icefury, and Frost Shock generate 50% more Maelstrom (25% in PvP), and your Chain Lightning, Lava Beam, and Earthquake critical strike damage is increased by 20% (10% in PvP).
- When gaining Stormkeeper from the tier set, the player gains 1 stacks of the Stormkeeper buff, contrary to 2 stacks when the player uses the ability himself.
- When starting your first fight after a loading screen, Stormkeeper will automatically be gained after 0-5 seconds.
The exact timing is random.
After this initial random delay, the tier set will attempt to grant Stormkeeper every 50 seconds.
In case a player casted Stormkeeper buff is active, the tier buff application is delayed and attempted again after 5 seconds.
This delay and re-attempt is repeated until the tier effect can be successfully applied.
The delay does not affect the next cycle start. E.g.:
- 0s fight starts
- random 3s tier Stormkeeper
- 53s tier Stormkeeper
- 103s tier Stormkeeper attempt, but player Stormkeeper is active
- 108s next tier Stormkeeper attempt, this time successful
- 153s tier Stormkeeper
- If you come outfight, the tier effect still tries to apply Stormkeeper every 5 seconds until the player is infight again. This then triggers the repeat of the previous bullet point.
- The effect Primal Fracture is applied after completly losing the Stormkeeper buff (all the charges).
- The effect Primal Fracture is applied if the buff is removed via /cancelaura or right click.
- Maelstrom generation of Overloads is affected.
- Increased Maelstrom generation affects Flow of Power too.
- Searing Flames is not affected.
- The critical strike damage increase makes critical strikes deal 270% instead of 250%.
- Echoes of Great Sundering provides the possibility to apply the critical strike damage effect to single target damage.

- 2-Set Bonus has been adjusted – Gain Stormkeeper every 50 seconds (was 40 seconds).
- 4-Set Bonus has been adjusted – For 8 seconds after you consume Stormkeeper, your Lightning Bolt, Lava Burst, Icefury, and Frost Shock generate 75% (was 100%) more Maelstrom, and your Chain Lightning, Lava Beam, and Earthquake critical strike damage is increased by 20%.
Note: The previous version of our tier set was roughly double the power level of other tier sets. This change brings us more in line without “killing” the spec potential.

General Shaman Changes
General tuning
- Lava Surges triggered by Primordial Surge increase the damage of your next Lava Burst by 15% (was 25%).
- Lava Burst damage increased by 12%. Does not affect PvP combat.
- Elemental Blast damage increased by 6%. Does not affect PvP combat.
- Earth Shock damage increased by 6%. Does not affect PvP combat.
- Lightning Bolt damage increased by 6%. Does not affect PvP combat.

Deeply Rooted Elements
- Deeply Rooted Elements should now activate more consistently for all specializations.

- Casting Lava Burst has an ever increasing chance to trigger Ascendance.
- Starting with a double 0% chance then incrementing by 1% per try. This results in a chance chain of 0%, 0%, 1%, 2%, 3%, 4%,… This averages out to the same known 7% chance and uptime.
- This change removes the probability of double procs (without Further Beyond) and droughts.
Flame Shock
- Flame Shock’s dispel protection from Control of Lava (PvP Talent) is now a baseline part of Flame Shock.
- Flame Shock now deals Volcanic damage (Fire and Nature damage).
- Flame Shock now interacts with the following talents:
- Flame Shock consumes Master of the Elements, empowering its initial damage and its DoT damage for the whole duration. DoT ticks do not consume Master of the Elements.
- When Ascendance extends a Flame Shock buffed by Master of the Elements, it preserves the buff.
- Flame Shock doesn’t interact as a nature spell with Elemental Equilibrium yet (even though it maybe should).
- Liquid Magma Totem will now consume Master of the Elements and buff one of the three Flame Shock applied.
- Flame Shock’s dispel protection from Control of Lava (PvP Talent) is now a baseline part of Flame Shock.

Power of the Maelstrom
- Power of the Maelstrom now has 13%/25% chance of proccing, up from 5%/10%.
- Before 10.1 casting Lava Burst rolled for Power of the Maelstrom on cast success and on cast hit.
- Starting with 10.1 Lava Burst rolls for Power of the Maelstrom only on cast success.
- The change to roll only on cast success means, that the value increase for the talent is smaller than assumed on first look. It’s still a noticeable buff to the talent.
- Power of the Maelstrom now has 15%/25% chance of proccing, up from 5%/10%.

Bloodlust/Heroism
- Bloodlust/Heroism now cost 2% of base mana (was 21%).

Spiritwalker’s Grace
- Spiritwalker’s Grace now has a grace period, allowing you to continue to cast while moving for a short period if the ability expires while casting.

- Earthgrab Totem now has 30 seconds cd (was 1 minute).

Healing Changes
- Player stamina increased by 25%, enemy spell and melee damage increased by 25%, and self-healing and absorb shield spells for damage dealers and tanks have been increased by a commensurate amount.
Note: this is purely a healer nerf. The following healing spell changes were made to compensate this change.
- Healing Surge healing increased by 37%.
- Earth Shield healing increased by 25%.
- Chain Heal healing increased by 25%.
- Healing Stream Totem healing increased by 25%.

PvP Changes
General PvP Changes
- Stormkeeper increases Lightning Bolt damage by 30% for Elemental in PvP combat (was 115%).
- Casting Lightning Bolt with Surge of Power causes 1 additional Elemental Overload in PvP combat (was 2).
- Lightning Bolt damage increased by 53% for Elemental in PvP combat.
- Control of Lava (PvP Talent) has been removed.

New PvP Talent: Volcanic Surge
- Increases the damage of Lightning Bolt, Chain Lightning by 25%, and the damage of Lava Burst by 45%. Lava Surge has an additional 100% chance to proc and now reduces the cast time of your next Lightning Bolt or Chain Lightning by 25%, stacking up to 2 times.
- Volcanic Surge added.

New PvP Talent: Burrow
- Burrow beneath the ground, becoming unattackable, removing movement impairing effects, and increasing your movement speed by 50% for 5 seconds. When the effect ends, enemies within 6 yards are knocked in the air and take Physical damage.
